The United Kingdom attracts more and more Algerian students, especially for its one-year master's degrees. The budget is easy to calculate because the Home Office itself sets the minimum living costs you must show. Here is the breakdown, with figures checked in October 2026.
1. Tuition
It varies by university and program. A real example at Coventry University:
| Program | Fee per year |
|---|---|
| BSc Computer Science (3 years) | £20,800 |
| MSc Computer Science (1 year) | £19,500 |
| International scholarship | £2,000 off each year |
Engineering and business programs usually cost more than humanities. Medicine is separate, with much higher fees.
2. Living costs required for the visa
The Home Office sets the amount you must show, for up to 9 months:
| Where you study | Per month | For 9 months |
|---|---|---|
| Outside London | £1,171 | £10,539 |
| London | £1,529 | £13,761 |
This money must stay in the account for 28 consecutive days before you apply. Details are in our UK student visa guide.
3. Visa and health fees
| Fee | Amount |
|---|---|
| Student visa (outside the UK) | £558 |
| Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS) | £776 per year of visa |
| TB test | set by the approved clinic |
| CAS deposit (Coventry example, North Africa) | £4,000, deducted from tuition |
The health surcharge gives access to the NHS, the public health service, so you don't need private insurance for routine care.
Example: a one-year master's at Coventry
- Tuition: £19,500 − £2,000 scholarship = £17,500
- Living costs to show: £10,539
- Visa: £558
- Health surcharge: calculated on the visa length, which is a little longer than the course
That's about £30,000 for the year, before the flight. One year is enough to get the degree, and the Graduate Route then lets you stay and work.
How to cut the bill
- Study outside London: £3,222 less to show over 9 months.
- Compare university scholarships, often automatic for international students.
- Apply for Chevening if you have at least 2 years of work experience. See our scholarships guide.
- Work part time: up to 20 hours a week during term.
Our UK package costs 98,000 DZD and is free for university applicants who already have IELTS. See our packages and our Study in the UK page.
