Florida International University (FIU) is Miami’s public research university, founded in 1965 and today one of the largest universities in the United States. Its main campus, the Modesto A. Maidique Campus, is in western Miami, and its programs range from business, engineering and computer science to hospitality and health.

As a public university, FIU charges international students much less than most private universities: about $19,000 a year in tuition and mandatory fees for an undergraduate. In return, admission is selective and first-year applicants must submit an SAT, ACT or CLT score.
